Back in 2011 a friend of mine referred someone to me for some logo work. The client was seeking a fresh new logo for the St. Mary’s College Writing Center. They weren’t too terrible picky about the design, but did provide me with the guidelines of the school mascot and colors (Seahawk and blue & gold, respectively).
I sketched out a couple rough ideas on paper to get an idea of what they might want as an end result, gathered a few samples from the web, and started making digital drafts. Rounds 1 and 2 didn’t really tickle anyone’s fancy, but the first concept in round 3 caught their attention. We started moving towards implementing the “seahawk” concept inside of a book. I made a few more drafts and refined the concept.
The client was very happy with the result and they proceeded to use the graphic for pamphlets, mailouts, pens and stationary.
